Vardenafil is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. Vardenafil belongs to a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, which also includes sildenafil (Viagra) and tadalafil (Cialis).

The PDE5 enzyme normally breaks down cGMP. By inhibiting this enzyme, vardenafil allows cGMP to accumulate, maintaining the increased blood flow and enabling an erection to be achieved and sustained.
