Product Details
Vardenafil is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. The 20mg dose is typically the maximum strength available and is prescribed when lower doses have been found to be ineffective. Vardenafil belongs to a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, which also includes sildenafil (Viagra) and tadalafil (Cialis).
How It Works
Like other PDE5 inhibitors, vardenafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. In a sexually aroused state, the body releases nitric oxide, which leads to the production of a chemical called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). cGMP causes the smooth muscles in the blood vessels of the penis to relax, allowing for increased blood flow and resulting in an erection. The PDE5 enzyme normally breaks down cGMP. By inhibiting this enzyme, vardenafil allows cGMP to accumulate, maintaining the increased blood flow and enabling an erection to be achieved and sustained. It is crucial to understand that sexual stimulation is necessary for the medication to work.
Uses
Vardenafil 20mg tablets are primarily used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It is a potent dose, and studies have shown it to be particularly effective in difficult-to-treat cases, such as in men with diabetes-associated ED.
Dosage and Administration
Standard Dose: The typical starting dose for vardenafil is 10mg. A doctor may increase the dose to 20mg if the lower dose is not providing the desired effect.
Maximum Dose: 20mg is the maximum recommended dose. It should not be taken more than once per day.
Timing: Vardenafil tablets are usually taken about 60 minutes before sexual activity. It can be taken with or without food, though a high-fat meal may delay its onset of action.
Side Effects
Common side effects of vardenafil include:
Headache
Flushing (redness of the face)
Stuffy or runny nose
Dizziness
Upset stomach or indigestion
More serious, but less common, side effects require immediate medical attention:
Priapism: A prolonged and painful erection lasting more than four hours. If left untreated, this can cause permanent damage to the penis.
Sudden Vision or Hearing Loss: A rare but serious side effect that requires immediate medical care.
Cardiovascular Symptoms: Chest pain, irregular heartbeat, or a sudden drop in blood pressure.
